SEO MAY NOT ALWAYS BE THE BEST FIRST CHOICE
SEO (aka “search engine optimization”) may not be a wise investment for a start-up company?
I will admit that there is a lot of buzz going around about the power of SEO and the rewards for those at the top of a Google or Bing search. I am even glad at the obvious move by more companies finding SEO no longer an option as much as a necessity to their actual marketing. As an early pioneer in the development of successful and proven SEO and currently the president for a leading SEO company in the Seattle area I am very pleased.
But, like many industries, you will find some “bad apples”. And the SEO industry is no exception. Those “bad apples” continue to lure thousands with over rated promises, low rates, scams, and outright dishonesty.
I recently had another occasion to share an example of real SEO neglect on behalf of one veteran client who had invested time, money, and trust in an SEO program (the idea was to replace us “the higher cost option”). This by a company that had a “big, important” image and was large in size and could talk the talk – not only did they fail to perform as promised! I easily recorded actual basic SEO negligence which would have cost my client plenty. I really don’t blame our client for trying as I also see some very impressive marketing ploys by this type of want to be SEO Company.
I was once a part of a large Fortune 10 company offering like SEO services. I remember sitting with business owners and listening to the hypnotic presentations during my training period. Already armed with real SEO knowledge I was also shocked! I quickly found that the company had an SEO program that didn’t really work. In order to keep my job I started to implement a plan to provide my own SEO services in addition to those offered by my then employer. I let my client know from the very beginning that I believed what my company offered to be probably worthless for those expecting a return for their marketing investment.
There are actually many Seattle area businesses that knowingly entered into contracts with my past employer only looking for me to deliver my SEO services.
Before long I realized that I could best serve my clients by quitting my job and devoting myself to SEO full time. Helping me also was the fact that I was informed at the time of my resignation by local management that they would no longer promote and support me in my methods and told me to immediately refrain from offering anything more than the services offered under contract.
I started my SEO Company immediately after and found that many clients appreciated my devotion and honesty, and SEO Seattle LLC was an instant success. I mean within hours of quitting my job with absolutely no contracts or plan.
Now let’s get back to my purpose of writing this article. I am writing this article as another point of view to what I recently read somewhere that “SEO is the right investment for a start-up business. That sent chills down me as the very idea could cost the entrepreneur there dream of success. REALLY!
The article was written by a seemingly well meaning individual who also seemed to be fairly educated in the fine art of SEO. The fact that he targeted small startup businesses and entrepreneurs made this article you are now reading and written by yours truly a must. His plan was to teach the readers of his blog SEO methods over the course of weeks for the purpose of allowing them to perform SEO. OK, let me make it clear that there is SEO that will not rank and then there is true SEO.
I could argue for hours about why I think this to be a huge waste of time and money and effort but instead I will note examples of a couple of SEO Seattle’s successes.
First I need you to know that SEO Seattle will only target the keyword searches recording the highest volume of searches actually made on Google and Bing and still those having the best possible chance of converting to actual revenue. Unlike many others claiming SEO capabilities who have convinced some to invest in search terms that sound promising but actually only compare to a bet on all black at the local casino. Many search terms sounding like a good investment actually rarely if ever will get used in an actual Google or Bing search.
Important to keep in mind is that we are hired by others on a month to month contract to deliver top rankings that actually make the phone ring.
Here are just a few examples of search term SEO projects and the time invested into each.
1 – “Roofing Seattle”
The number one search in the Seattle area by those looking for a roofing company. Our roofing client is today in third position which has taken four months of strategic SEO.
2 – Personal Injury Lawyer Tacoma
Our client is always in first or second position after taking almost a year to rank on the first page. “These clients also threaten to quit during the journey due to of the time it took to deliver. That was now years ago.”
3 – “Plumbing Contractor Seattle”
This search term is another challenge for even the best SEO companies. Now after three months of SEO we are still not on the first page.
4 – “SEO Seattle”
Our Company is always in first or second position for this term which is probably the most competitive search term in the Pacific Northwest! Understand this is a keyword term used by many looking for SEO services in the Seattle area. There is not an SEO company not wanting to rank for this search. I will only share with you that even with the trademark and namesake it was over a year after the move by Verti Group International to hire me and purchase select SEO assets of SEO Seattle LLC that you could find us on Google at all for the search term “SEO Seattle”.
The point of this article is to share the following.
Our company is only about SEO and continues to experience top keyword rankings on Google and Bing to be a considerable investment of time and determination along with a full time commitment.
When a small start-up company is in its infant stage, it may be wise to invest more time and effort into shaking hands and networking than SEO. You should consider SEO with a clear and realistic understanding.
Many will still take the “do it yourself approach” which is understandable on several levels. I also liken those to the many who spending time at casinos. I find that those choosing to ignore the reality of real SEO are no different than those who may also making wishes after seeing a shooting star.
I hope you remember this… you are not alone or the first to consider in house or “do it yourself” SEO. As more and more companies continue to induct SEO into their marketing your numbers will also grow.
I hope you the entrepreneur found this to article helpful. Our company is truly and passionately devoted to helping our clients deliver to them the results that they dream of! It is easy to make mistakes when it comes to the best path to take when seeking a successful SEO solution. I hope that you now have a better understanding of the realistic timeline and the best use of your time.

TOO MUCH INTERNET MARKETING WITHOUT VERIFIABLE ROI…
One common request made by clients of their trusted SEO Company (at least those clients of SEO Seattle a verti group international company) is the request to review and verify the value of other third party internet marketing contracts. I must say I am amazed at the number of contracts examined showing absolutely no value at all. Really!
A good SEO can easily save some clients thousands of dollars when including this “Consumer Reports” type of service. Some of our clients have saved tens of thousands of dollars and greatly increased their online marketing ROI putting those dollars budgeted for internet marketing else where.
Some of the most common finds are the non-delivery of what the service was intended to produce, no delivery and it is very common to find that the keyword terms that are being delivered i.e. where the client actually shows up on the first page for terms contracted are simply those not being searched enough to support the cost.
As an example, a common term for a personal injury attorney is “Wrongful Death Lawyer Seattle WA”. While this may make sense and even sounding like a good idea, the paying attorney is probably better off taking that money to a casino and even betting it all on “double zeros”. Better yet, invest it in a reliable SEO company. It has always been the policy at SEO Seattle to have every prospective client consider an extensive research of what keyword terms are being searched and their connection to possible conversion.
Another common and miss-leading technique used by too many online marketing services is to use “broad” search numbers (a number representing the use of a search term that have been a part of an actual search query’s) instead of considering the alternative exact search.
Example: Using the Google’s “Keyword Tool” in “Broad” mode for the keyword term “roofing contractor” reports there were 110,000 searches during the most recent thirty day search volume report, (02/16/2013).
When set to “Exact” mode the same shows less than 2,500. This matters plenty. If a contractor is searching for say a roofing contractor magazine or an association or one searches roofing contractor jobs, they all will be counted as a “broad” search for the term “Roofing Contractor”. For a successful SEO campaign one must consider the conversion possibilities. None of the search terms used in the example here are likely looking to purchase a roof.
Sadly it is far too much for the average business owner or even their dedicated marketing staff to know what is involved in a good keyword analysis which now includes also understanding the connection of review sites and some social and web other authority sites and 2.0 internet portals. This also not to mention the mounting other SEO considerations and steps that come before a successful SEO campaign. As a leading SEO company in Seattle, WA we have an individual who’s only responsibility is to keep us updated on Google copyrights and deciphering posts made by Matt Cutts (Google’s head of Wepspam team) on his blog http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/.
I recently witnessed an SEO Seattle marketing staff member frustrated after having four consecutive SEO projects turned down by our SEO department with the projections of a suitable ROI of the would be client not present.
SEO Seattle was one of the first (if not the first) to offer month to month contracts for SEO work (never offering anything else) we continue to be involved with internet marketing that will and can deliver upon a client’s expectation.
Finally, I should add that while many internet marketing opportunities can be examined without risk or investment to our valued clients. That said… there are those online investments which simply must be watched and analyzed after a history and representation online. What prompted this article I will not fully disclose for obvious reasons? I will only share a quote from my email in reply to the request made by a one well respected and who is a client of SEO Seattle’s and has been for many years, (it read) “I honestly wish I could explain how a company like this one appears to be so successful without delivering.” I will only add that for me, the bigger they are, the more you may want to know.
Enough said…

The Difference Between rel=author & rel=publisher
Posted on 02.05.2013
Google conveniently features two distinctly different tags that can be added to a Web page’s HTML to promote the individuals that authored a piece of content or an entire brand.
These are the two new tags known as rel=author and rel=publisher, that will automatically link an article or website back to a corresponding Google+ profile from within the search engine results pages (SERPs). This provides those listings with greater authority (as they’ve essentially been vouched for by Google) and helps them stand out among the other results on the page.
In other words, both of these tags can be very useful for search engine optimization (SEO) and Internet marketing, as long as you know the difference between them.
rel=author
You know those little author pictures that appear next to some of the blog posts and other content that you come across on Google’s SERPs? They’re the result of a rel=author tag that has been attached to that page.
These tags are meant to help promote individuals alongside each unique article by tying their work to their personal Google+ profiles. Of course, the tags do more than just make articles stand out on the SERPs (although that certainly helps); they also provide more credibility to a listing and garner significantly more exposure for the writer, as they also provide a “More by” link that collects other content that the writer has published and added the rel=author tag to.
Linking an article to a Google+ profile is a simple two-step process. The first is to add a link from the site or Web page with the content to your G+ profile by adding this tag into the HTML:
<a href=”profile_url?rel=author”>EXAMPLE TEXT</a>
Obviously, you’ll want to replace profile_url with the URL for your Google+ profile. After that, you need to link to your content from your profile, which can be done by signing into Google+, clicking on “Edit profile” and adding a custom link to the Contributor To section toward the bottom of your profile page. However, you must be sure to link your rel=author tag to an author page that is on the same website as your content.
rel=publisher
The rel=publisher tag has a much broader focus. It will tie a Google+ business page to an entire website, as opposed to claiming just a single article like the rel=author tag. And while the author tag will show a writer’s picture in the search results for a particular article, the publisher tag shows a Google+ page summary in search results for that particular brand.
In doing this, Google is recognizing a brand’s G+ page as its “official” profile, which it will give preference to in the SERPs. It also means they’ll be eligible for Google Direct Connect and aggregates all of the brand’s +1s across their site, G+ page, search results and AdWords ads.
Basically, the rel=publisher tag is Google’s way of providing an incentive to get brands to sign up for Google+ profiles. Right now, however, the capabilities of the tag are pretty limited (just ask any SEO or marketer), largely because it isn’t triggered until someone searches for only a brand’s name without any additional words in their query. That being said, the very existence of the tag is enough to assume that Google will be coming up with new ways to feature it on its search results in the future, meaning implementing it will eventually show greater benefits for marketers.
To manually use the tag, simply add it to the head of your site in the HTML and include the URL of your business’s Google+ page. It should look like this:
<link href=”profile_url” rel=”publisher”/>
Once you’ve done that, you need to go through the verification process. As with the rel=author tag, you just go to your Google+ page and click “Edit profile,” then add the URL to your brand’s website in the Website section to create a reciprocal link between the two sites.

THIS IS A MUST INCLUDE IN THE SOCIAL NETWORKING QUEST!
Great information for anyone seeking useful Social site information…

IS IT MORALLY CORRECT TO HAVE AN SEO COMPANY TAGGING THEIR CLIENTS SITE?
I think not!

Devoting to the Social Media Sites?
I simply thought time spent on such sites to be a complete waste of time…
01/22/2013
Noticeably increasing is the time that we are devoting to the Social Media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Pinterest, Google Plus+ and others.
It was not that long ago I would find this fact more than humorous. I simply thought time spent on such sites to be a complete waste of time. At least when measuring it monetarily. “Social Media had nothing to offer as a viable method of dominating a search by those looking for products and services online.” Yes I was ignoring the big picture and believed that only search engines like Google and Bing to offer our clients of SEO Seattle (now a Verti Group International company) a return on their investment. That said, It is now a growing trend that looking for which products and services to invest in will start with a traditional search on our choice of search engines only to end with consideration of reviews and information found in our respected online social networks. From bubble gum to motels more of us look for what others have to share about their experiences.
I mean, let’s think about this, if you have enough great reviews and followers not to mention a real online IDENTITY to protect… We become more confident in our choice of the blessed products and services. Personally I feel relieved enough to end my quest for a different service or product provider when others already endorse my choice. I even liken it to a type of virtual insurance. Who would have ever thought that would be the case?
Five years ago, I was Seattle’s King of SEO. For years I would hear my name being mentioned in conversations when the subject included how to dominate the search engines. Still today there are companies who present themselves as SEO Seattle. So much for United States copyrights. I am the registered owner as well as hold a Washington business licence for SEO Seattle LLC. My point? Those who turn to the Facebook or Twitter will find evidence and a direct line leading them to true SEO.
Today, I keep a low profile. One way I do this is by not providing links to the SEO I perform on behalf of a client. Some people may have even thought that I had dried up and blown away. Not a chance. No more talk shows for me. No more branding a clients website. Today’s SEO is so much bigger than it has ever been before. It is more than just a full time job. You either need to have a working Crystal Ball or know how to decipher and remain current on Uncle G’s copyrights. It is also a good idea to pay respect to Google and their every wish. This was a tough lesson to learn for sure, especially coming from one who helped to pioneer the SEO industry by developing and perfecting the keyword stuffing method. Hey, back then it worked well enough to ensure that I always delivered as per my client’s expectations. It all seems like ancient history to me now.
Some of you who are reading this may be aware of the fact that SEO Seattle LLC, a company I founded and was President for three years, was merged into a newly developed company. The company Verti Group International is where I took my leap forward to the value of online Social Networking. VGI employees were actively navigating sites such as Pinterest, Live Journal, Ning, Linkedin, (my personal favorite) and let’s not forget Merchant Circle, My Space and Google Plus. The amazing fact is that users of these sites utilize them as a forum where they may ask questions about a particular company’s services or products before making their decision to buy. Really!? NO average price, No average anything!? These sites cover a wide range of categories ranging from restaurants to movie theaters, from dentist to lawyers, from cars to bikes, you name it, and you can find it there. All it takes is a simple click of your mouse to get the information desired on a particular service or product.
Search engineoptimization seattle
Today, I have thousands of friends on Facebook and find myself Tweeting whenever the urge strikes me. These sites do not allow for me to get to know someone on a personal level such as a meeting for a cup of coffee however; they do make me feel good about sharing my thoughts and when the need arises reading theirs. It is important to note that while we are using these sites, that our behavior is being monitored by those with a voice and the power to post and review.
SEO Seattle is leaving the traditional SEO platform behind. We now envision a search that will end in a Social Network. Bing knows this and in my opinion, well enough said.
FOR THOSE WANTING TO STAY ON TOP OF SOCIAL SEARCH
Could it be “Turtle and the Hare”?
This is an interesting article that may make you think…
Bing and the Evolution of Social Search

Facebook Graph Search
I see this as a wake up call to those on the fence…
The new Facebook Graph Search at a glance seems to be a good idea. I mean knowing what others like and recommend before a purchase and/or a time investment is possibly a hedge against disappointment. Most of us place very high values on our time and knowing what movies are liked or church is recommended by others can prove to be very useful indeed. YES at a glance this new search engine looks to be both useful and inviting to those looking for a type of insurance for our choices. I mean even a plumber and dentist have been used for example searches which could result in huge savings of our hard earned money.
This along with the fact that Facebook has over a billion members and over one trillion connections will make it hard for any of us to overlook Facebook as a viable search engine.
I recommend that all business owners, marketing agencies not over look the possibilities and consider this. If you don’t have a page, you can’t get liked, and if you don’t get liked, you aren’t going to be ranking in Facebook Graph Search.
That said… This search engine has a long way to go. In today’s digital age that could mean only months. SHOULD YOU BE ONE OF THE MANY BUSINESSES THAT CANT BE LIKED? I believe it no longer an option to ignore Facebook.
As a closing note… SEO Seattle® has included Facebook in our over all SEO stratigies for years. Maybe that’s why for years many continue to consider us Seattle’s Best SEO Service.

OMG 2013!
So much is new in search engine optimization and much more for a professional SEO to know and cover in 2013. The need to SEO or “search engine optimize” continues to grow and no longer an option. Searches using Bing and Google are at all time highs and desk top as and now mobile search is considered a necessity by most savvy business owners.
It is no surprise that according to many including Forrester Research, 93% of consumers worldwide use search engines to locate and click thru to their choice of websites. Even when having the URL it seems we find locating a website easier than typing the respective URL. It is also documented by many in authority that 57% of internet users (and more) will use a search engine daily.
Most important to the business owner should be the FACT that 75% of us using search engines never see page two.
Information like what is being shared here is widely commented about and supported by too many in authority to list. Don’t believe me? Just search for yourself.
2013 is to be another year for getting your Search Engine Optimization (or SEO for short) best strategy in place and updated for today’s search engine algorithms. VGI SEO (Verti Group International aka SEO Seattle) is ready to help. We are Seattle’s original and only company registered owner with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for the right to use the phrase SEO Seattle. We realize that trademarks and the US government don’t mean much to those taking short cuts or wanting to cash in on others success.

I can think of many ways this ARCHIVE site can be used. One example. Lets say you are talking with a company about the prospects of web development/design or SEO “Search Engine Optimization”. Going in armed with a timeline of changes your prospect has made to their site can prove very useful indeed. Not to mention an easy display of likes and dislikes in the move from old to newer.
You may even uncover somthing that was left out and not offered by the new host. Anyway, I am confident that this site could prove useful to us in the SEO area. It could also prove to be great conversation by one who could be applying for a job. Would like it if you share any other ways this site could be used.

companies protecting their trademark and choosing not always to make the fast buck or be associated with questionable statements only to lure the dollar are now punished by those that were all about the money. Know about the effective SEO Back link Strategies to Avoid
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) has been a popular application which is considered to be essential for promoting a website on the Internet along with its services, products and other facilities. This technique of SEO has a lot of legal points and limitations which are required to be followed by every Search Engine Optimizer, the expert of SEO. However, the SEO experts are required to follow these restriction and limitations willingly otherwise the consequences can be fatal in the interest of the websites.
Google, the most popular search engine for the global community, often comes up with its updates which are nothing but new set of rules and regulations which are essential for the search engine optimization techniques. Among various SEO techniques, creation of back links is extremely important as well as successful one. These back links are actually external links which import the visitor to the main site as and when the visitor happens to click on it. The rules of SEO and the updates of Google are extremely important for the best results of SEO.
As per the recent updates from Google, Panda and Penguin, the SEO experts are required to avoid the following back link strategies for promoting their sites on the Internet:
Paid links:
Google Penguin updates strictly prohibit the use of paid links. The web spiders or robots can find out these back links quite easily and restricts the sites almost immediately. This update restricts use of back links and targets the websites without any hesitation. The penalization can even appear in the form of disappearance of the sites from the search results.
Article spamming:
Use of one article for creating heavy back links can be heavily harmful for the site. Google traces these types of content quite easily and declares them as spam and that can be heavily harmful in the interest of the websites and their marketing interests. Moreover, use of spun articles is also harmful as these updates concentrate heavily on the quality of the content and makes no compromise on this issue.
Spamming with anchor texts:
Google heavily appreciates use of diverse keywords to be used as anchor texts. Both Panda and Penguin updates from Google recommend use of various types of keywords for anchoring their links at various platforms or levels. The SEO experts must make a deeper research on these keywords and then use them as the anchor texts. It is not at all difficult and can be done comfortably with a little amount of research.

FOR THE RECORD ABOUT “REAL” SEO
Posted on 2012-12-02 18:29:23
Much has changed concerning Off Page optimization. Back links are actually now like playing with fire for the new or those with little experience only time will prove me right. A recent Google announcement involving some types of directory web 2.o linking was recorded to actually prove more harm than good.
Verti Group International posted a video pointing to this discussion on their home page several weeks ago. You may want to take a look. I personally believe there has been a major shift involving On Page recently and the need to be selective in a mix of back-linking. I also believe that in many cases less is better (if you know what G is looking at). It is now how the dots are connected as well as timed. Don’t believe me… We control some of Seattle’s most competitive searches and are paid thousands (not hundreds) a month to know.
You can always Google this subject with Google’s spam expert Matt Cutts and I am confident you will find this out for yourself.
Of course… like us, you may want to start reading the Google Copyrights. It is widely known that I did not graduate high school. That makes me work all that much harder to be right.
Also, save your time… We don’t tag our clients for the same reason that we no longer as we did for years needed to be number one for SEO search terms. It is all about the client now. Do you really think we would make it that easy for search engines to find those paying to engineer rankings?
It’s time to change. The days of keyword EMD’s “exact match domains” and keyword stuffing is over. Thank Goodness for that.
Last, the cost of REAL SEO has risen 10 fold since I entered as the original and registered owner of the trademark “SEO Seattle”.
Good Luck with that back linking. We know that the only Off Page Optimization to hold will be those who “LINK SCULPT” and so much more. I guess I just am tired of staying quiet and wanted to date and record this statement for all to consider after the next year or so.
Google does make it easy to care for a client. Just read the G Webmaster Guidelines. G will always want a search to uncover the right and most valuable content. That said. I also know that SEO is no cookie cutter and there is a huge difference in one category and another. Not to mention the difference in geographic areas and the relationship to SERP’s. Enough said.
C Ya David
